Love Is Hope
"Love Is Hope" contains 10 new tunes exploring love and hope from every angle. Lost love, new love, love of nature, even late-for-a-date fun! The first song "Rise Above" asks why we continue to write songs of love and hope when we see so much heartache around us. It answers that we write them despite the problems in the world so that we can rise above and be part of the love. "Fragile" is written from the perspective of Mother Nature, and begs us to remember that, even though we realize the harm we have done, we must always find the hope for positive change. "The U" is my shout out to Prince, in style, and speaks of the lost one true, but elusive love, and of the present enduring love. My love-song "I've Given In" is a tried and true jazz ballad, and “Bus Driver” and “Love Walked In”are a couple of fun swing tunes. "Thin Wire" was inspired by the TV series The Wire. As the series did, it explores the thin line between good and evil, right and wrong and the constant underlying vulnerability we experience as we walk the thin wire of our lives. "All These Rooms" was written after I watched an interview by George Stroumboulopoulos with June Callwood. She was elderly and did the interview from her home and you could see some of her books and a few other things she surrounded herself with. About a week later, she died, and the suddenness of it made me look around at my rooms and at what was important to me. But you know, in the end, "It's Alright", as much as we sometimes want to go back to what we think are happier times, we just have to forge ahead in love and hope, and work for peace in our lives and in the world around us!
